South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) - formation established by seven participating nations in order to contribute to the regional security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area

Participation at “Female Leaders in Security and Defense: Results and Next Steps” Conference, organized by MoD of Republic of Serbia

A SEEBRIG HQ representative participated in the international conference entitled “Female Leaders in Security and Defense: Results and Next Steps”, in Belgrade organized by MoD of Republic of Serbia. Conference was held within the framework of SEDM initiative, with the participation of representatives from SEDM, as well some other countries and international organizations.

The purpose of the participation for the SEEBRIG HQ representative, was to expand SEEBRIG’s knowledge concerning the topic which did not only reflect the changes in society, but also the necessity to recognize and enhance the role of women in the fields with traditionally male-domination, increase SEEBRIG visibility within SEDM countries and other international organizations, generate a common understanding of the importance of female participation in the peace support missions, and seek out opportunities for SEEBRIG HQ to improve its operational readiness through better understanding of the role of female personnel in armed forces especially deployed in peace support operations.

The two-day conference discusses the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, the importance of career development for an increased representation of women in uniform in leadership positions in the security sector, and female leaders in peacebuilding operations – challenges and lessons learned. It will also discuss the role of gender-responsive leadership in achieving zero tolerance towards gender discrimination and the responsibility of educational institutions in creating 21st century leaders and the future of female leadership – leadership practices and resilience strategies, obstacles and opportunities for women leaders.
