Ambassador Besnik BARAJ – Nation 1
Mr. Baraj was born on March 12, 1956.
He graduated from Tirana University, Faculty of Natural Sciences in 1981. After graduation he was appointed as assistant in Analytical Chemistry Department at Tirana University. In October 1988 he completed his studies by sustaining the thesis of Ph.D. degree: “The Chemical analytical study and production of soft ferrites of Fe, Mn and Zn” and in 2001 he was awarded the title of “Professor”.
Between 1982 and 1993 he worked as instructor at the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Natural Sciences. In 1990 he was assigned as Head of the Analytical Chemistry Department Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Tirana, where he conducted his research activity until 1994.
His other academic assignments were: Professor at Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) Barcelona, SPAIN (1994-1995), Professor at FURG, Rio Grande, Brazil (1997-2001) and also Professor at Tirana University, Faculty of Natural Sciences (2001-2002). Between 1996 and 1997 he made important contributions to the protection and preservation of Ohrid Lake as Project officer at PPNEA.
His political career begins in 1996 as Member of Parliament and in the same year he is appointed as Deputy Chairman of General Election Commission.
Mr. BARAJ was appointed as Deputy Minister of the Environmental Ministry (2003-2004), and from Jan 04 to October 04 he was the Deputy Minister of the European Integration Ministry.
Between October 2004 – June 2005 he held the position of Deputy Minister of Defense.
Mr. BARAJ is the author of 33 scientific papers, published in scientific magazines in different countries: Albania, Japan, France, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands, UK, Brazil and Canada. He is also the co-author of other publications for academic study, regarding the industrial chemistry branch like “Exercise in Analytical Chemistry” 1984 and “Laboratory Practice in Instrumental Analysis” 1993. He contributed to a series of surveys as co-author: “The strategy of the Albanian Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations” 2002 and “National Assessment Report for the World Summit on Sustainable Development”, Johannesburg 2002. He participated in 16 International Symposiums, 14 works presented, which are published in the abstract books of the respective activities.
He speaks fluently English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian.
Between 2005 – 2007 he has been appointed the 4th chairman of the Politico-Military Steering Committee of the Multinational Peace Force South-Eastern Europe (MPFSEE).
