CHAIRMAN OF THE SOUTHEAST EUROPE DEFENCE MINISTERIAL COORDINATION COMMITTEE (SEDM-CC) AND POLITICO-MILITARY STEERING COMMITTEE (PMSC)
Eleftherios Anghelopoulos served as Ambassador of Greece to Georgia (2005-2007) and Ambassador of Greece to Canada (2010-2014).
He previously held diplomatic posts at home and abroad, with a particular focus on EU Affairs, South-East European Cooperation Process, international economic relations and development cooperation.
His positions in the Greek Diplomatic Service, since joining in 1979, include: Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Greece in Washington, D.C (2002-2005), First Counsellor at the Embassy of Greece in Moscow (1996 -1999), Consul of Greece in Houston, Texas (1990 -1993) and Counselor responsible for International Development Cooperation at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU in Brussels (1983-1989).
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he held the posts of Director General for International Economic Relations, Director General for International Development Cooperation, Director of Balkan Affairs Department, Director of Diplomatic Office of the Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Office of European Parliament.
He is currently Special Adviser (European Affairs) at the Office of the Minister of National Defence.
Eleftherios Anghelopoulos studied Law in the National Athens University and holds an MA from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales, EHESS, Paris. He speaks English, French (fluently), Italian and German (intermediate).
He received the following decorations: Commander of the Order of Merit (Portugal), Commander of the Order of Cedar, Second Class (Lebanon), and Grand Commander of the Order of Phoenix (Greece).
He is married to Dr. Anastasia Anthi, MD and has one daughter and one son.
