South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) - formation established by seven participating nations in order to contribute to the regional security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area

Official visit of SEEBRIG delegation to UN HQ and the Permanent Missions of SEEBRIG nations to the United Nations in New York, USA

In significant step toward strengthening international collaboration, joint delegation from the SEEBRIG HQ and SEDM Secretariat recently visited the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The visit aimed to bolster ties, share best practices, interact with the UN HQ (Department of Peace Operations), explore opportunities for potential participation of SEEBRIG in UN Peace Support Operations, increase SEEBRIG visibility, and last but not least to extend gratitude to the SEEBRIG Nations’ representatives in the UN HQ.

The delegation expressed its interest for UN peacekeeping missions, which play a vital role in conflict resolution and post-conflict rebuilding efforts across several regions. Additionally, it was also highlighted a SEEBRIG members commitment to the UN’s principles.

During the visit, the Delegation had planned and conducted three consecutive meetings with the Officer in Charge Deputy Military Advisor in the UN HQ Office of Military Affairs (OMA OIC DMILAD) BG Mohammad Nazul Haque, the Director of UN Uniform Capabilities Support Division (UCSD), Mr. Michael Kitivi, and Undersecretary General (USG) Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Head of the UN Department of Peace Support.

The delegation also paid courtesy visits to the Permanent Missions of all six SEEBRIG nations to the United Nations in New York, USA. The importance of these visits can be seen in the important role of Permanent Missions in the eventual SEEBRIG participation in UN peace support operations (PSO).

Considering the latest developments and challenges of the current PKO around the world, it is emphasized that the UN is at a crossroads that requires comprehensive consideration of the future of PKO, which will likely mark a new chapter in the UN’s mission to foster global peace, prosperity and sustainability.

During the meetings, all sides expressed a common understanding of the current security challenges in the world, appreciated the need for constant transformation and adaptation while discussing the wider approach towards safety and security, and communicated ideas for deeper cooperation and coordination between the UN and SEEBRIG.

In addition, above-mentioned visits served as a great opportunity for SEEBRIG to present itself to the UN and the Permanent Missions of the SEEBRIG Nations to the United Nations in New York, USA, increasing its visibility and to strengthening cooperation, exchange ideas and details for the future collaboration between SEEBRIG and UN, and last but not least, to increase its visibility through interaction.

In accordance of the provisions of the MPFSEE agreement and wit the mutual acceptance and understanding, made during this visit, both sides hope to see concrete results in the close future.
