SEEBRIG Evaluation visit to affiliated units in Romania
Between 06 and 09 October 2026, a high-level South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) delegation led by the Commander of SEEBRIG (COMSEEBRIG), Brigadier General (BG) Ivan Malamov, conducted a scheduled, multi-stage operational evaluation visit to its affiliated and declared military units in Romania. This comprehensive assessment aimed to verify the operational readiness, tactical interoperability, and collective capabilities of Romania’s assigned forces, ensuring their seamless alignment with SEEBRIG’s regional Peace Support Operations (PSO) frameworks.
The standard-setting trip officially commenced on 06 October 2026 with a visit to the “Henri Coanda” Air Force Academy in Brasov. Upon arrival, the SEEBRIG delegation was warmly welcomed by the Academy Commandant and Rector, BG PhD Marius Serbeszki. Guided by the HQ motto, “ONE TEAM, ONE MISSION,” this introductory stage served as a platform to foster high-level professional dialogue, share evolving experiences, and strengthen ties between the academic institution and the regional multinational Headquarters (HQ).
Transitioning from military academia to the tactical level field-assessment mission, the SEEBRIG delegation shifted its focus to the coastal region of Constanta County, home to the 9th Mechanized Brigade (Mech. Bde.). The evaluation began at the brigade’s HQ with a comprehensive capability briefing delivered by the Bde Commander, Colonel Constantin George Ileana-Nita. This initial briefing detailed the unit’s overall structural modernizations and technological adaptations tailored to integrate flawlessly into contemporary multinational task forces.
The cornerstone of the evaluation took place on 07 October 2026, during a rigorous assessment of the brigade’s flagship asset, the 341st Infantry Battalion “Constanta”, stationed in Topraisar. Also known as the “White Sharks,” this elite battalion demonstrated their extensive experience through a very complex and dynamic field exercise, which included tactical demonstrations (military operation in urban terrain, check point operations) as well as skillful management of civil-military complex situations (riots, civilian interference with military operations, etc.); the complex exercise scenario was design to demonstrate the tight tactical-level cooperation of the military personnel with the national emergency situations and crisis response stakeholders, to include the Romanian Gendarmerie and Emergency Sitution Inspectorate (firefighters, medical personnel etc.)
Since “details make perfection”, the White Sharks added to the scenario role players, on-site medical assistance and MEDEVAC, helicopter exfiltration, live drone footage, and other impressive features aimed to test and prove both their high level of professionalism as well as the adherence to SEEBRIG Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Moving far beyond basic tactical maneuvers, the battalion designed an intricate multi-domain scenario that tightly integrated various components of land combat. The troops showcased their mastery of standard peace support maneuvers, rapid response tactics, and realistic crowd control operations under intense pressure. The exercise transformed the training ranges into a realistic, fast-evolving operational environment mirroring current crisis situations and security threats.
The flawless execution of these field drills left a strong impression on the evaluating team. The “White Sharks” successfully validated their interoperability alongside national and multinational regional partners, proving that their training standards meet the criteria necessary to be able to operate within the SEEBRIG HQ in a multinational Peace Support Operation (PSO) or a Humanitarian Assistances and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation. BG Malamov and his staff highly commended the rigorous discipline, motivation, and outstanding professionalism displayed on the terrain.
The comprehensive evaluation visit drew to a successful close on 08 October 2026 in Bucharest, where the SEEBRIG delegation was received at the Romanian Land Forces Staff. Welcomed by the Chief of the Land Forces Staff, Major General Ciprian Marin, the high-level meeting provided an excellent forum to synthesize the findings of the three-day evaluation and discuss future regional cooperation plans.
During this closing engagement, both leadership teams engaged in a traditional exchange of commemorative plaques to celebrate the enduring defense partnership. Major General Marin and Brigadier General Malamov reaffirmed their mutual commitment to sustaining regional stability, continuing joint training initiatives, and continuously elevating collective military readiness across South-Eastern Europe.
